Mark decided to make easels and sandwich boards (used for advertising , like for plays and concerts) for Timberline Middle School. Mark spent a lot of time in his grandfather's shop planing and cutting wood and getting it ready for people to assemble, sand, stain, and finish.

One of the things that we have enjoyed doing as a family is going to the shows at Tuacahn in St. George, Utah during the summer (often for Sue's birthday). In 2003, Alpine started a community theater program and did "The Sound of Music", which had been done by the community 20 years earlier. Mark played cello in the "pit".
