2016 Read It Again, Sam

This challenge is hosted by Bev at My Reader’s Block.
*Challenge runs from Jan 1 to Dec 31, 2016.
Levels:
Déjà vu: Reread 4 books
Feeling Nostalgic: Reread 8 books
A Trip Down Memory Lane: Reread 12 books
Living in the Past: Reread 16+ books

I did this challenge for the first time in 2015, signed up for 8 books, and finished when I hit 30 re-reads which is way past the top level. Most of my re-reads come from audio books I check out from the library and listen to as I do other things around the house. You can get through an audio book quite fast at that rate. So this year I signed up for Living in the Past 16+ books. I am now at 29 books so this challenge is DONE!

Ode to the 1930’s Blocks #32-33

November 29, 2016 by Sue Leave a Comment

Here they are-the last of the 6″ blocks! We got these done in the middle of October and were glad to have hit that milestone. There are 14 of the 6″ blocks in this quilt. We have found that with the fabric all cut, we can sew two in a session, otherwise we choose, cut and sew one in an afternoon. #32 is called Aunt Dinah and the pattern calls for yellow, black, red, and green, with the star being in black. We did not like that color combo at all and decided we wanted the star points to be the focal point, so they are the solid yellow. Then we chose the flowered center because we like it and haven’t used it, then added the sunflower fabric in the corners for the same reason. The orange cornerstones came from the touch of orange in the center, and it became a nicely balanced block. [Read more…] about Ode to the 1930’s Blocks #32-33

Ode to the 1930’s Blocks #30-31

November 20, 2016 by Sue Leave a Comment

We spent a week in September choosing fabrics and cutting kits for the remaining 6″ blocks, then worked on #30 Pieced Basket #3. The pattern calls for red and black and we actually followed the pattern exactly on this block. And aren’t those Scottie dogs in the main part of the basket cute? We were getting a little worn with pieced baskets so glad this is the last one. [Read more…] about Ode to the 1930’s Blocks #30-31

Ode to the 1930’s Blocks #28-29

November 16, 2016 by Sue Leave a Comment

The last of August brought blocks #28 and #29. These are both 6″ blocks because the pattern works from 12″ to 9″ to 6″ to 3″. So we have been busy on a series of 6″ blocks and there are more to come. #28 is called Pieced Basket #2 and the color scheme called for black, red and yellow. We opted to use yellow and green because we like to go rogue and we are comparing surrounding blocks now and trying to get varying colors in neighboring blocks. This was also one of those sewing days when everything seems to go wrong. We were all feeling it and both of these blocks just had issues and problems. We have a rule: 3 strikes and you’re out. So we will unpick twice and re-sew but the third time we just live with the results. And that’s where we are with these blocks. [Read more…] about Ode to the 1930’s Blocks #28-29
