I began this challenge in 2009 and have loved doing it. Thanks to Andrea at Carolina Book Nook for hosting. The rules are simple: Read one book in each category. Here are this year’s categories.

  • An antonym (ex. Big Little Lies, Wicked Saints)
  • 4 letters or less (ex. Feed, Vox)
  • A given/first name (ex. Tess of the Road, Flowers for Algernon)
  • Reference to children (ex. Baby Proof, Children of Blood and Bone)
  • One of the 4 natural elements – water, air, fire, earth (ex. The River at Night, The Name of the Wind)

I began this challenge in 2009 when it was hosted by someone else, but for several years it’s been ably hosted by Charlie @ The Worm Hole.  This year she passed it off to Andrea at Carolina Book Nook. And now I have finished it up.

The rules are simple-Read one book from each category during the year and here are my finished books.

A precious stone/metal The Golden Tresses of the Dead (Flavia de Luce #10), Alan Bradley

A temperature A Cold Treachery (Inspector Rutledge #7), Charles Todd

A month or day of the week Weeping on Wednesday (Lois Meade #3), Ann Purser

A meal If a Tree Falls at Lunch Period, Gennifer Choldenko

Contains the word “girl” or “woman” The Woman on the Orient Express, Lindsay Jayne Ashford

Contains both the words “of” AND “and” Children of Blood and Bone (Legacy of Orisha #1), Tomi Adeyemi

Gentle Spectrums 2019

January 28, 2019 by Sue Leave a Comment

I’m joining the Gentle Spectrums challenge for the 6th year and making my goal one book in each category. Any books read after that until the end of the year will be a bonus. I’m trying to decrease my stress and still have fun, so a new plan sounds great. This challenge has the following categories for 2019. Thanks to Carolyn for hosting!

My Kind of Mystery 2019

January 28, 2019 by Sue Leave a Comment

I’m joining the My Kind of Mystery challenge for the 4th year and giving myself freedom without a goal. So unlike me! I’m going to drift along and see where the year takes me and how many books I read that fit the challenge parameters: everything mysterious, including biographies and tutorials. I usually read many mysteries each year so we’ll see if I beat last year’s total of 34. Thanks to Carolyn for hosting and I’m looking forward to a fun year!

Celtic Coasts 2019

January 28, 2019 by Sue Leave a Comment

I’m joining the Celtic Coasts challenge for the 4th year and giving myself freedom without a goal. So unlike me! I’m going to drift along and see where the year takes me and how many books I read that fit the challenge parameters: an author born or residing in one of the three Celtic countries of Ireland, Scotland, & Wales, literature that takes place among these countries, or is connected to them strongly. Thanks to Carolyn for hosting and I’m looking forward to a fun year!
