THE GIST: The idea is to read books set in European countries or books by European authors. The books can be of any genre – fiction, nonfiction, novels, short stories, memoirs, travel guides, cookbooks, biography, poetry, whatever. You can participate at different levels, but each book must represent a different country — either written by an author from a different country or set in a different country, no two books from the same country. It’s supposed to be a tour!

I signed up for the level: FIVE STAR (DELUXE ENTOURAGE): Read at least five books by different European authors or books set in different European countries. And here are books:

1.The Man Who Died Twice (Thursday Murder Club, #2) by Richard Osman- UK https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/4454474270

2.The Murder on the Links (Hercule Poirot #2) by Agatha Christie-France https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/4558530375

3. The Women in the Castle by Jessica Shattuck-Germany https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/2788361498

4. The Only Woman in the Room by Marie Benedict-Austria https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/4652781230

5. The Longest Echo by Eoin Dempsey–Italy https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/4743415414

Thanks to Carolina Book Nook for hosting. I’ve finished up this challenge for the year & read a book with a title that fits each category.

  • Compound word Murder at Blackburn Hall (High Society Lady Detective #2) by Sara Rosett
  • Speed Fast Girls: A Novel of the 1936 Women’s Olympic Team by Elise Hooper
  • Person and their description The Fallen Man (Leaphorn & Chee, #12) by Tony Hillerman
  • Mythical being Talking God (Leaphorn & Chee, #9) by Tony Hillerman
  • Season Pagan Spring (Max Tudor #3) by G.M. Malliet
  • Color The House in the Cerulean Sea by T. J. Klune

I’ve participated in this challenge for several years & always enjoy searching for books to fill the categories. This year, three were audio books from the library and three were from my TBR shelves.

2022 SpaceTime Reading Challenge sign-up

January 5, 2022 by Sue Leave a Comment

spacetime reads

I wasn’t going to sign up for more reading challenges but I have some sci-fi I want to get off my shelves this year, so this will be motivation for me to read them!

There are 4 levels to aim for (or achieve) and I’m going for the first level, which is 5 books: Planet hopper.

SpaceTime Reads details

  • You can read any book that is from the science fiction/time-travel genres. Any sub-genres are welcome as long as they incorporate one of these genres.
  • Non-fiction is not included in this challenge.
  • You don’t need a blog to participate but you do need a place to post your reviews (even one-liners) to link up. (blog, Goodreads, booklikes, shelfari, etc.)
  • Make a goal post and link it back here with your goal for this challenge.
  • Books need to be novellas or novels, although anthologies count if they meet the page guideline. (At least 100 pages +)
  • You may count books that you do not want to finish if you have read at least 25%, or 100 pages, whichever is MORE. If you have read enough to give a fair mini-review that’s fine.
  • Crossovers into other challenges are fine.
  • The Challenge runs from Jan. 1st to Dec. 31st.

2021 Reading Statistics

December 31, 2021 by Sue Leave a Comment

Another reading year has come to an end and here’s the tally for the year. I read way more than a normal year. Part of that was due to lots of audio books while sewing & kindle books while exercising, and part was an intentional scheduling of reading time.

Books read: 194
Pages read: 64,530
Of the books read:
Non-fiction: 8
New-to-me authors: 36
Continuing series books: 126
Re-reads: 40
Audio-books: 110
Various book club reads: 8
Challenges completed: 9 of 9
Ongoing tally of Newbery winners: 83 of 100

The Mystillery 2022

December 28, 2021 by Sue 1 Comment

I’m going to be back for all these challenges at the Mystillery in 2022. I’ve really enjoyed being involved with these various mystery challenges & being part of the community.

In 2021 I conquered the Beachcomber & Abra Cadavers. I’m currently doing Ten Pins & have only one more decade to finish up the Century Club. I got 15 notches in the Six Shooter gallery, and read 110 books as the Medical Examiner. So next year should be lots of fun.
