Rise and Shout!

February 13, 2009 by Sue 1 Comment

Good news! Brian has been accepted to BYU for the fall and has received a tuition scholarship. Next month he will find out if he has been accepted into the Music Dance Theatre program at the university. He auditioned for that program on 31 Jan just ten days after his surgery and thought it went very well.

So now it is unanimous-Scott and I are BYU alumni and both our sons are BYU students.

Go Cougars!

The Curious Savage

February 10, 2009 by Sue Leave a Comment

savage-b-jonsavage-b-macyLast night was opening night for the Lone Peak HS production of “The Curious Savage”.  It was a GREAT show and the actors and crew were just fantastic.  The performances were funny and touching and the story is really fun.  Brian played Hannibal, who needs to lose weight and plays the violin.  (It’s a secret, but during the show he actually played his viola.)  The show was funny, touching, and thought-provoking about relationships and how we perceive each other.  Everyone should make the effort to attend this wonderful show this week!  It runs each evening at 7 pm through Friday night.

Brian at the hospital

January 25, 2009 by Sue 2 Comments

brian-ct-scanBrian had a CT scan and hearing test at Primary Children’s Medical Center on January 5 and the ENT surgeon had his surgery scheduled for January 21.  Just like that.  Brian made arrangements and rescheduled rehearsals and lessons to be ready and off we went last Wednesday.

brian-before-surgery-thumbs-up5He looks cheery and confident before the surgery, but then those are two of his normal qualities.  The surgeon opened him up behind his ear, removed mastoid bone and infected material, and grafted in a missing section of his ear canal.  He’s been home resting and I’ve been playing nurse for the last few days.  He’s watched many a DVD since Thursday morning.  He’s starting to feel a little more like himself today, but is still quite sore, dizzy, and tired.

Thanks to everyone who prayed for him.

Madrigal Feaste

December 14, 2008 by Sue Leave a Comment

img_15942This week finished up the Lone Peak High School choral department’s Madrigal Feaste for 2008.  Brian, as the President of the Chamber Choir, was heavily involved in the success of the event.  He also played the King, who acts as the Master of Ceremonies and stage manager.  He was doubly wired with his wireless microphone and a headset to listen to backstage directions from the choir teacher and the techies.  There is a meal served to about 200 people each of the 7 evenings, consisting of  green salad, chowder in a bread bowl, a chicken quarter, mashed potatoes, vegetables, a chocolate tart, and wassail.  The dinner is servedmadrigal-singing by members of the A Cappella Choir, and the Chamber Choir is the Royal Court and the beggars, CC sings several songs, and sings a couple with the A Cappella members.  The Royal Court performs in a humorous play that was a spoof of Cinderella.  They did a great job and the beggars collected lots of coins thrown by the audience.  This is the major fund-raiser for the choral dept. each year and a major undertaking.  But the kids were up to the job!

Drama

December 6, 2008 by Sue Leave a Comment

Life moves fast in the drama world.  “Pimpernel” is barely over, Brian is the King in the annual Choir Madrigal Feaste this week and next, and he’s been cast in the winter play at Lone Peak HS.  He will play Hannibal in “The Curious Savage”, a comedy by John Patrick.  The show will run February 9-13, 2009.

Next up: auditions in a week for “Brigadoon”, the spring musical.  Fasten your seat belts!
