Mark

Music Notes

June 20, 2011 by Sue 5 Comments

I’d like to”Pay it Forward” to my eldest son this week.  Mark created a blog dedicated to his music, called appropriately, Mark Carey Music.  He’s posted an original song that I really like which he wrote, performed and recorded.  It’s called “From the Sea to the Sun”.  Mark is a music major with an emphasis in music sound recording and plays cello, guitar, piano, organ, and sings.  He’s pretty multi-talented and fun, too!

Recently he accompanied a local singer/songwriter, Taylor Olsen, at the new Muse Music Cafe, which has a blog detailing music events in Provo.  You can watch one of the videos, “She’s Not Me”, here; he also plays on her song, “Worst Enemy”.

It seems the Provo music scene is really hopping as evidenced by a recent Deseret News article.  So I’m also giving a shout-out to the Provo Music Guide, a blog that gives all sorts of info about local bands, venues, and upcoming shows.  Rock on!

Sitting on Santa’s lap…over time

May 30, 2011 by Sue Leave a Comment

I have taken pictures of people sitting on Santa’s lap at the Carey Christmas party for the last several years and thought it would be fun to see how we’ve changed through the years.  So here are some photos, organized by family.

See us sit on Santa’s lap.  See us have fun.  See us get older.

Disclaimer: I thought I snapped feverishly at every party and got every child every year.  But when I gathered up all the pictures I found some people are missing.  I can’t explain this, so nobody should infer anything or take this personally.  There’s one year I don’t even have pictures of both my own children.  I can’t explain this, either.  If you have other shots you’d like me to include for posterity, send them along and I’ll update this post!

Click on a photo to see them all in a gallery by family.

Mark’s concert

November 8, 2010 by Sue 2 Comments

On October 26, we went to see Mark play in a concert at the Covey Center in Provo.  He is a member of the BYU Symphony Orchestra and they played in conjunction with the UVU Symphony and Chamber Orchestras.  They played some arias with special guests Jennifer Babidge and Christopher Holmes, as well as orchestral pieces from Brahms, Janacek, and Delius, ending with the “William Tell Overture” by Rossini.  We took a picture of Mark in the lobby afterward but my cell phone didn’t take as well as I would have liked.  Boo.

Some good news from each of us

August 27, 2010 by Sue 1 Comment

Scott: switched our TV service from Comcast to Direct TV so that we have the correct stations to see ALL the BYU football games this year.

Sue: received “Mockingjay, book 3 of the Hunger Games” in the mail today and will be starting to read it tonight.

Mark: after spending all summer talking to various people at BYU, he just found out that he really had been accepted into the Music Dept. in February but some kind of mix-up sent him the denial letter instead of the acceptance letter; he has been stressed and praying and investigating other options since he got home from his mission in May but now he can do what he really wants to do with his life; not only is he now a music major but they’ve also approved the lateral move to a sound recording emphasis because he’s already taken some of those courses.

Brian: after spending almost 6 months in his first area of Escondido, he is being transferred (we won’t find out where until Tuesday); he is being made a senior companion AND a district leader with this transfer.

Tuacahn 2010

July 27, 2010 by Sue 1 Comment

We made our annual summer pilgrimage to Broadway in the Desert last weekend and had a great time!  The Tuacahn shows in St. George this year are “Cats” and the regional premiere of “Tarzan, the Musical”.  This was the first time we had seen “Cats” and the dancing was really amazing.  Some of the leads were fantastic.  “Tarzan” was awesome.  They had really stunning aerial work going on in almost every scene, the leads were great and it was really fun.  Great quick vacation.
