RSC2024 May week 2

SOSCRAPPY

I got started on my pinks this week & got all my blocks done! The large heart in the upper left is Scrappy Hearts & next to it are three pinks for Patchwork Hearts, both by Quilty Love. In the bottom left are four rail fence blocks, then four split 9-patches & some Two-Step from Lissa Alexander’s book “Scrap School”, all made with 2.5″ squares. No wonky Lori Holt paper pieced hearts this month as the layer cake I’m using for it doesn’t have any pink.

Hocus Pocus top from The Pattern Basket is done, using Jessica Dayon’s layout. I need to piece the backing & get it to the quilter, then it goes to my daughter-in-law.

A few months ago, I cut out a bunch of these blocks from donated fabric to make a portion of the pattern, Star Pop II by Quilty Love, into small baby donation quilts. This top is the second one I’ve sewed together & now it’s ready for my quilting partner to quilt up.

And a finish to show! Cookie Cutter began life in a class in summer 2018. I let it lie, then by accident found out one of my quilting partners had taken the same class at a different quilt store that summer. We didn’t tell each other! So when our other quilting partner left for a humanitarian mission for a year, we decided to work on our quilts together & get them done. We did that in 2022, but it took me awhile to get it quilted & bound. Now it’s finally done & I love that Tula Pink fabric!

Now I’ve got the rest of the month with no pinks, so maybe pull out a WIP & finish it up???

RSC2024 ending April

SOSCRAPPY

I finished up 32 Potato Chip blocks for the Covered in Love block drive & got them sent to Texas. These used up quite a bit of fabric given to me by a retired quilter that I promised would be made into donation quilts.

I made 3 small baby donation tops this week from leftovers of another donation quilt, so felt good about using up all those scraps. They are super modern, so hopefully some teen or homeless moms will fall in love with them. They are in a pile for my quilting partner to quilt up once I can drive again & get them to her.

I also got Bonnie Hunter’s Indigo Way Mystery pt. 6 done, so now there’s one more set of parts to make, then I get to start putting blocks together!

Plan for next week: get out the pink scraps & turn them into blocks!

RSC2024 March becomes April

SOSCRAPPY

This is an RSC2022 project that finally got to completion this month. It’s called “Sweet Kisses” & has a scrappy low-volume background that’s hard to see with the sun on it, but I really love how it turned out. I worked on the blocks each month until my accident in Aug 2022. There are still some projects hanging around for me to finish, but I’m slowly getting them done.

Another RSC2022 project that needs work is this Tula Pink modern sampler. I had all the colors done except purple & orange before the accident, so I got the purple blocks done during Purple March. Yay!

Indigo Way Mystery Parts 4 & 5 by Bonnie Hunter finished this month!

Now for April RSC2024! I managed to get all the yellow blocks done for projects. You may recall that I intended to ease up this year in order to finish up WIPs, but projects proliferated! It can happen.

Two-Step from Lissa Alexander’s book “Scrap School” with 2.5″ squares in upper left; hearts on left are Patchwork Hearts by Quilty Love; below that are split 9-patches with 2.5″ squares. The large heart is Scrappy Hearts by Quilty Love & below that are four rail fence blocks with 2.5″ squares. On the right are the wonky Lori Holt paper pieced hearts.

I keep thinking I will link up more often with shorter posts, but 2024 has been rough so far & now that I can squeeze in some sewing, I’m just enjoying being able to create. Then Saturday comes & I see the post & face palm that I didn’t write a post, but I’ve been checking in on y’all & loving your stuff! Sew on, people!

RSC2024 Feb to March

March 15, 2024 by Sue 2 Comments

SOSCRAPPY

I had surgery at the beginning of February, so there was no sewing until near the end of the month. But I managed to get some red 2.5″ squares done: Two-Step from Lissa Alexander’s book “Scrap School”; some split 9-patches; & rail fence blocks.

Slowly but surely, I’m making progress on Bonnie Hunter’s Winter Mystery, Indigo Way. Step 2 was done in late February. If I continue with one/month, I’ll finish late summer!

As February turned into March I decided to make some Scrappy Hearts by Quilty Love. These are large blocks so I only need a few for a throw quilt. We’ll see how they end up at the end of the year.

Purple Scrappy Heart

There’s been more sewing in March, now that my head can stand it. So I got the 2.5″ projects done in purple.

I did the two purple Patchwork Hearts I need for my layout for the pattern by Quilty Love. Then on to the wonky Lori Holt paper pieced hearts. I realized that I didn’t get the red ones made for February, so they will have to get done later in the year.

I used leftovers from another RWB donation quilt to make these for the current charity block drive by Cynthia Brunz. You can make some using these directions.

And this week I got the top done for Cherry Crunch by Bonnie Hunter! I started the low volume string blocks in January 2023, so it’s good have it done. It’s in the closet to await its turn at the quilter. I ended up making it smaller than the pattern, so I have a bunch of orphan blocks left to snowball into a baby donation quilt.

RSC2024 Jan to Feb

February 3, 2024 by Sue 2 Comments

SOSCRAPPY

I started another RSC2024 project. How does this happen when I made a resolution to not go overboard?? Ah well. These are Patchwork Hearts by Quilty Love. I made the January green, then went ahead & made the February red. So this project is done for the month!

In January 2023 I posted that I had made all 448 of these string pieced 2.5″ x 4.5″ blocks for Bonnie Hunter’s Cherry Crunch. Then I planned to set them aside until the red month & put the corners on. Unfortunately, red occurred during the time we were moving & I was not doing my projects.

So this week I got right on these as soon as red was announced. It pinged in my brain that I wanted to get this top done! I’ve been putting on the corners, then sewing pairs, then pairs into blocks. I’m almost done with the blocks I need for a lap size quilt, then will have leftovers to make a donation baby quilt. So hopefully I can get these rows sewed & the borders made this month.

So….on to more red in February!!! Happy sewing, y’all!
