Newbery Challenge 2014 wrap-up

December 5, 2014 by Sue Leave a Comment

I decided to join this challenge to jumpstart my perpetual challenge of reading all the winners.  My goal was the L’Engle level: 15-29 points, and although I thought I would just make the lower threshold, I actually hit the top of the first level.

Each book you read is worth points. You get:

3 points for a Newbery Medal Winner
2 points for a Newbery Honor Book
1 point for a Caldecott Medal Winner

In addition to that, you pick a level to aim for:
L’Engle: 15 – 29 points
Spinelli: 30 – 44 points
Avi: 45 – 59 points
Lowry: 60 – 74 points
Konigsburg: 75+ points

My books:

2-The Great Gilly Hopkins by Katharine Paterson

2-Thistle And Thyme: Stories And Legends From Scotland by Sorche Nic Leodhas

2-The Golden Fleece and the Heroes Who Lived Before Achilles by Padraic Colum

2-Rules by Cynthia Lord

3-Shen Of The Sea: Chinese Stories for Children by Arthur Bowie Chrisman

2-Lizzie Bright and the Buckminster Boy by Gary D. Schmidt

2-On My Honor by Marion Dane Bauer

2-Surviving the Applewhites by Stephanie S. Tolan

3-The Voyages of Dr. Dolittle by Hugh Lofting

3-Flora and Ulysses: The Illuminated Adventures by Kate DiCamillo

3-The Hero and the Crown (Damar #1) by Robin McKinley

3-Call It Courage by Armstrong Sperry

Total=29
