Tuacahn 2005

September 27, 2005 by Sue Leave a Comment

Here’s a photo of us leaving the hotel in St. George to drive out to Tuacahn.  We saw Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast” which was really good and had wonderful sets and costumes.  We also saw “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” which was super fun.  It was set in St. George and started with the Narrator telling her one-room schoolhouse about the story of Joseph and the brothers were local farmers, the Ishmaelites were bikers, and Joseph gets sent to Egypt which is Las Vegas.  It was totally hilarious.  Potiphar was a casino owner, his wife was a Marilyn Monroe look-alike, and the Pharoah was Elvis, of course.  It was so fun!  When the brothers remember “Those Canaan Days”, they sat at an outdoor movie and watched a B&W of themselves.  So clever.  The whole show was great.

After enjoying two days there, we headed off to New Mexico to see where Scott is living when he’s not with us in Alpine.

New Mexico Trip

July 10, 2005 by Scott

While Scott was working in New Mexico, we all went down together for a vacation.  We started with Scott flying to Utah, and then all of us driving down to St. George to see Beauty and the Beast and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat at Tuacahn.  They were both great.

We then headed to Las Cruces, where Scott was living temporarily, visiting Zions National Park:

Wupatki National Monument:

and Sunset Crater National Monument:

After spending Sue's birthday in New Mexico, we visited Juarez, Mexico where we did some shopping:

and Carlsbad Caverns (which we had visited in 1996, so that was fun to see again, now that the boys were older):

After Carlsbad, Mark had wanted to visit the International UFO museum in Roswell, New Mexico.  Now that was interesting!

What was even more interesting was all the alien themed items around Roswell:

We headed back to Las Cruces where we relaxed, swam, ate out, watched movies, and then all headed back to Utah.

On the way back to Utah, we visited Pueblo Bonito in New Mexico.  Mark had done a research project on Pueblo Bonito for school so it was interesting to actual visit it.

Mark’s Eagle Project

August 30, 2004 by Scott

Mark decided to make easels and sandwich boards (used for advertising , like for plays and concerts) for Timberline Middle School.  Mark spent a lot of time in his grandfather's shop planing and cutting wood and getting it ready for people to assemble, sand, stain, and finish.

Tuacahn

August 15, 2004 by Scott

One of the things that we have enjoyed doing as a family is going to the shows at Tuacahn in St. George, Utah during the summer (often for Sue’s birthday).  Billed as “Broadway in the Desert” they put on great shows every year.  They put on two shows during the summer, alternating each night.  This year, we saw “Guys and Dolls” and “West Side Story”.  One of the unique things is the setting.  The stage is outdoors and set back in a red rock canyon with 1000 foot cliffs in the background.

You can’t take pictures from inside the outdoor auditorium, but this is right outside it.  The setting is spectacular and the shows outstanding.
