Pulaski Tunnel & the Big Burn of 1910

June 4, 2014 by Sue Leave a Comment

The first day of our trip was spent driving with small stops to stretch our legs.  We spent the night in Missoula, Montana, then headed across the Idaho panhandle.

IMG_4819-2Last year, I read a book called “The Big Burn” by Timothy Egan that had been recommended by my friend, Karen.  Since I love to visit historic places that relate to books I’ve read, I had the area around Wallace, Idaho on my list.  “The Big Burn” tells all about the huge wildfires of 1910 that popped up all around the west with the worst area centered in eastern Washington, the Idaho panhandle, and western Montana.  Smoke from these fires was seen as far away as New York, and ships 500 miles out in the Pacific couldn’t navigate by the stars at night because they were blotted
out by the smoke.   [Read more…] about Pulaski Tunnel & the Big Burn of 1910

I have a recording studio in my house

June 1, 2014 by Sue Leave a Comment

Mountain Beach House Studio has taken up full-time residence in my house. It used to be part-time but no longer. One room has been converted and it’s pretty awesome. Behold the photos! And feel free to contact Mark for all your sound recording needs. 🙂 And like him on fb. And all that other stuff like Instagram and twitter.

Returning from tour

May 31, 2014 by Sue Leave a Comment

I know, I know.  You’re thinking, “That happened, like, 10 days ago!”  Well, yeah.  Your point?

Once upon a time, things happened in my life, I took pictures, and then I blogged about them.  Like right after the event.  But life happens, ya know?  So now that I’m on vacation I have some time with internet access and I can catch up.  Then I’ll blog about vacation.  Maybe only a few days after it happens.  Progress, right?  But I digress.

Our sons went to Southeast Asia on tour with the BYU Young Ambassadors!! Did you see the pictures?  Hint: check the archives.  Anyway, all good things must come to an end.  Sadly, this is a life lesson we all must learn.  So they came home and just like the two previous years when Mark went on tour, we went to the airport to meet them and bring them home.  They didn’t get much sleep on the planes and were both groggy with bloodshot eyes, but felt good about a successful tour.  It was a once in a lifetime trip and something they will always remember.  We are so grateful for the opportunities they have had at BYU to learn and grow and use their talents.

Barn project-block #3

May 29, 2014 by Sue Leave a Comment

We did the third block about three weeks ago and I forgot to post!

This is the Peas and Carrots block for our barn project.  It came out so cute!  We used the same green fabric because it was so perfect and then went with our own stash bright orange fabrics.  Once again, the small little triangles made the block bulky with all those seams, but it sure is darling and got us in the mood to grow some vegetables.

We returned to more all-over prints for the red barns and were both much more happy with the result.  We were uber careful with pressing but no matter how straight our barns are, adding that white sashing makes us lean.  Hmmm.  Photos are not as forgiving as the human eye and when it’s all together, maybe nobody will notice??

Final SE Asia post

May 23, 2014 by Sue Leave a Comment

Mark & Brian returned from their BYU Young Ambassadors tour this week, so here are some final shots from Cambodia and Vietnam.

We made it to Cambodia. We had a amazing time visiting #angkorwat and then got caught in a thunderstorm! #angkorwatselfie #seyasiatour #byuya

#seyasiatour #byuya Day 16. In the morning visited tunnels that the Vienamese dug and used during the war. In the afternoon went on a boat to an island. This picture is of our canoe ride back to the boat. It was like DisneyWorld Jungle Cruise except real.

Vietnam! Just on a boat ride in the Mekong delta, staying in Saigon. (Don’t worry I’ve been singing it ALL day) #mdtprobs #seyasiatour #thelife #isthisreal#whoknows

#seyasiatour #byuya Day 17. Halong Bay, Vietnam. Sooo amazing.

#seyasiatour #byuya Day 20. Finally got pho in Vietnam. Also saw the preserved body of Ho Chi Minh, first president of communist Vietnam. Flew to Bangkok. Fly home tomorrow

Well, this officially marks the end of my time performing with the BYU Young Ambassadors. I am so grateful that I was given this amazing opportunity and for all the lessons I’ve learned and friends I’ve made. Can’t wait for more exciting experiences in the future!! Life goal: completed. #seyasiatour #byuya

#seyasiatour #byuya Day 21. After flying for like 24 hours we are finally back in Utah. So grateful for my three years in the@byuyoungambassadors and the three tours I went on. Love the YAs and learned a lot.
