Mark’s Eagle Project

August 30, 2004 by Scott

Mark decided to make easels and sandwich boards (used for advertising , like for plays and concerts) for Timberline Middle School.  Mark spent a lot of time in his grandfather's shop planing and cutting wood and getting it ready for people to assemble, sand, stain, and finish.

Tuacahn

August 15, 2004 by Scott

One of the things that we have enjoyed doing as a family is going to the shows at Tuacahn in St. George, Utah during the summer (often for Sue’s birthday).  Billed as “Broadway in the Desert” they put on great shows every year.  They put on two shows during the summer, alternating each night.  This year, we saw “Guys and Dolls” and “West Side Story”.  One of the unique things is the setting.  The stage is outdoors and set back in a red rock canyon with 1000 foot cliffs in the background.

You can’t take pictures from inside the outdoor auditorium, but this is right outside it.  The setting is spectacular and the shows outstanding.

Sound of Music

August 4, 2004 by Scott

In 2003, Alpine started a community theater program and did "The Sound of Music", which had been done by the community 20 years earlier.  Mark played cello in the "pit".  The performances were done in an outdoor amphitheater — that's why it looks like Mark is sitting on stone seats.  They kept having problems with it raining, forcing one performance to get cancelled, and another delayed.  All the musicians had to keep scrambling for cover to protect their instruments.  Mark loved playing in the pit and has played in a number since then.

Horsetail Falls

April 14, 2004 by Scott

In a canyon just outside of Alpine, there are some falls called Horsetail Falls.  During spring break this year, Scott and the boys hiked to the falls (its about 2 miles up a fairly steep trail).  There was quite a bit of water flowing over them.

Along the way is a very large boulder that the Brian and Mark climbed up to get a picture taken.
